The relay differs from the relays of later model years. It does not have the standard configuration of common load relays. This component is often to blame for typical problems with the starter motor of old BMWs. The old Bosch starter puts a lot of strain on the relay, and especially if the relay is more than 40 years old, as is often the case, the trouble is predictable.
